Work in Haiti
I had hoped to bring The MoonCatcher Project to Haiti a few years ago. Then the pandemic hit and then the political situation in Haiti deteriorated. We still hope for the day when it will be safe to travel there. In the meantime, we are always on the lookout for ways to reach people there.
I recently received a note from Louise, from Hispanola Health Partners, who is doing work in Haiti. Thought I would share!
“Hey Ellie, Finally I am getting around to sending you a mini report about the 35 kits I was able to bring to Haiti in June. I meant to go again with more in November but the border was closed and I had to cancel. Now, if all is in alignment, I will go next month and bring all the rest with me.
Our midwife did a session with 189 boys and girls last month about sex ed - menstrual cycles, family planning, etc. and gave away the kits. It was a great hit , they love the kits, and they want to integrate this into our monthly public health outreach programs that goes deep into the remote regions to do vaccinations, deworming, etc.
Obviously, getting the kits there is the biggest challenge, but I'll keep pushing. Here's a few photos, not exactly museum grade. There might be another in the pipeline that's better. I'll send if so.
