Day 3: Off to Kenya

Breakfast under the Mango tree at the Nile Hotel in Jinja was lovely. Passion fruit and bananas along with veggie omelets taste better than ever outside somehow.

Phoebe and I repack calendars and Tyvek for our trip to Kenya.

Our driver, and now new friend Charles, packed our bags into the car and off we went to Kisumu. It took about 5 1/2 hours to get there including the border crossing which is always slow but so different from last time when Covid had entered our world.  Back when our temperatures were taken over and over and we were washing our hands raw.

About midway into our trip, we realized we had left a bag in Phoebe’s car. Though it’s unfortunate, there is no way we can make this trip longer. We will ship that stuff to Kenya when we go back to Uganda.

Along the way, we passed through small towns and villages and midsize communities as well as sugarcane fields. Cows and goats graze everywhere along the roadsides and on front lawns. Baboons sat on the sides of the roads looking for handouts.

We are staying in apartments owned by Agnes’s friend Linda who greeted us warmly and had platters of exotic fruits laid out for us and cool drinks. I was so happy to see mangos, my favorite.

We unpacked the suitcases that I had sent ahead with Agnes (we had heard that people were having trouble at the Uganda airport getting their bags through so to be on the safe side we sent goods to Kenya with Agnes). Luckily all our luggage made it to both countries.

A shower and a bit of a rest later we had a fabulous home cooked meal by Linda and fell into bed soon after.
