A Little Like Santa!
It is Dining for Dollars cookie delivery day as I write this. Frequently I am interrupted by the doorbell calling me to jump up and fill cookie orders. It’s been a really busy week and I’m so grateful for all the bakers, drivers and tech people that have helped make this “different” sort of event possible. We packed over 300 boxes (Special thanks to my son Zak for building all those boxes) of homemade cookies and almost 200 loaves of quick breads. We felt a little like Santa packing all those confections.
I hadn’t thought about it beforehand, but today I’m finding it a wonderful gift to be able to say hi to so many people as they pick up their orders. I’ve missed you over these months and am feeling happy today to be able to say Happy Holidays and hear a few words about your lives.
The MoonCatcher Project has been busy. Our HUG campaign has been a great success. We decided to extend it to the end of the year because so many people have asked. You can find more info here. I was surprised to receive hugs from several family members and friends. It’s feels extra good during this difficult time.
Our tailors in Malawi, Kenya, India and Uganda continue to make menstrual kits. Everything is more expensive these days due to COVID, but we have managed to continue getting funding for supplies to all of our sewing guilds – though funding for all of them is down a bit this year. Throughout the world everyone is struggling but with care and determination we continue on.
Giving Tuesday kicked off our year-end campaign to raise $20,000. If we can reach this goal, we will continue to provide MoonCatcher Kits to girls around the world. We won’t be able to expand as much as we’d hoped but we can still serve the schools that we have been working with for years as their new students and incoming classes arrive each year. We serve many schools in four different countries, so it is no small task.
Our Annual report arrived yesterday. It’s beautiful thanks to Monica Tan. You can see it here or, if you would like a copy sent to you, please email me!!
And so, as the Holiday Season approaches, I want to say thank you for all your support and wish you happiness however you celebrate. It’s an unusual year and most of us will be without family around but we’ll get through it and hopefully next year we will be able to be together in person. Be safe. Be joyful. Be well.
Happy Holidays to you all.
P.S. We still have a few washable, reusable, eco-friendly holiday gift bags. Click here for more info.
